A Year of Reading
'A Year of Reading’ and our Sponsored Challenge
At our school and across our partner schools within the Trust, we are embarking upon our Year of Reading! Through the year, we will be really focusing on reading and books to encourage a life long love of reading in all our children. There will be events throughout the year to encourage and enthuse the children such as bedtime reads, storytelling evenings and visits from authors - more details to follow!
To kickstart our year, we are setting our children the challenge of reading for an entire year during the month of November. Now, clearly no single child can do this by themselves, but across our trust, The Redstart Learning Partnership, if every child were to read for just 7 hours (about 15 minutes per day) then we would collectively have read for an entire year in just one month!
Your child will come home with a chart to track their reading challenge. Every time they read for 15 minutes, they should colour in one of the book symbols and see if they can read for 7 hours (or more!) during November (listening to adults read and to audiobooks counts as well!)
We would love you to support your child in gaining sponsorship for their challenge from friends and family members. All money generously donated to our children will come directly to our school to be spent on many new, exciting books for the children to read. Details of how to sponsor our challenge will be sent out shortly.
Let’s see how much we can raise together! Good luck!
