We have been very busy in Owl Class this half term. We read the book 'Supertato' and then the Evil Pea visited our classroom and was causing mischief. The children made their own Supertato to try and stop the Evil Pea and created wanted posters to try and catch him. As a class, they came up with the idea to trap the Evil Pea in jelly so he would stop making our classroom untidy!
In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting and looking at doubles. The children loved creating some doubling art work. Our topic has been 'Sunshine and Sunflowers' and we have been busy trying to grow some of our own plants and vegetables. I hope you all have a lovely half term break!

This half term our topic is 'Dangerous Dinosaurs'. The children have explored different dinosaurs and fossils. We found a dinosaur egg and waited patiently for it to hatch. We then had to look after it and learn about what dinosaurs eat and whether they were carnivores or herbivores.
We have also been looking at the book 'Where The Wild Things Are'. We had to follow instructions to trap a wild thing in our Forest School area. We were lucky enough to catch one and then wrote our own instructions so that other children can catch one. In Maths we have been looking at addition and subtraction. The children have been working really hard. Well done Owl Class!

Chinese New Year - We thought it would be nice to share some pictures of the class cooking their Chinese spring rolls and enjoying the tea party (see Page Gallery below). They all did a fantastic job and the spring rolls were delicious!

We have had such a busy start to our Spring term. Our topic is 'Starry Night' and the children really enjoyed their evening staying at school and exploring the school environment when it was beginning to get dark. As a class, the children made pasta tomato sauce during their forest school session. They then ate this with pasta during their 'Starry Night' evening. They all said it was delicious! The children also toasted marshmallows, whilst we talked about the differences between day and night. We have also been learning about nocturnal animals and the children were looking out for them during our evening at school.
In Literacy, we have been looking at the story 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers. The children have been using their knowledge of phonics to write words and sentences. In Maths, we have been working on counting to 10 and we are now looking at the different ways we can make numbers to 5.

We can't believe that the children have finished their first term in school! They have had such a fantastic time and have all worked incredibly hard. The children in Owl Class have been busy practising and recording the Nativity play and we hope you all enjoyed watching it as much as they enjoyed performing it. We have also been busy learning about different celebrations and doing lots of Christmas Artwork. It has been a busy few weeks! We hope you all have a lovely and restful Christmas. The children definitely deserve their holiday.

Our topic in Owl Class this half term is ‘Once Upon A Time’. We have spent time looking at traditional fairy tales such as Goldilocks and The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and many more. The children have really enjoyed listening to these stories and then acting them out and re-telling the stories. The children worked as a team to create a bridge made out of crates to help the gingerbread man get across the river. We have also been doing some super writing using their knowledge of phonics to help them spell words. They described the fox from the ‘Gingerbread Man’ story and made an ‘I’m sorry’ card for the three bears in the Goldilocks story.
The children absolutely love phonics and have been busy learning their set 1 sounds. They are now beginning to blend so that they can read words by sounding them out.
We have also been looking at celebrations and learnt about Diwali and the Christmas story. We are beginning to practise our Nativity play and are learning the songs and dances. As always, we are so impressed with the children in Owl Class and their hard work. Well done!

We have been very busy in Owl Class this half term. Our topic has been 'Me and My Community'. We have spent time looking at people who help us and the important roles different members of the community have. The children have really enjoyed role playing different jobs and constructing different emergency vehicles out of different materials. They have particularly enjoyed the Doctor's Surgery in class. The children have also been busy learning their sounds in phonics, trying hard to form letters and simple words. We have been looking at different fairy tales and the children have impressed us with their re telling of these stories.
In Maths, we are busy learning our numbers to 5 and enjoy counting as much as we can. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to be creative and after an autumn walk, the children decided to create their own 'Leaf Man' from the 'Leaf Man' story. They also worked in pairs to explore colour mixing with their hands after learning about the importance of being a good friend.
We hope you all have a lovely, restful half term. The children have had such a super first half term at school and we are so impressed with them all!

The children in Owl Class have settled in brilliantly and are enjoying school life. They have been spending time getting to know their new classmates and school and have had very busy mornings. Next week, the children start staying for whole days. They will need their forest school and P.E kits on Wednesdays. A huge well done to all children for having such a super start to the new school year!
